Ragnarok Gold review

Slotmill · August 4, 2026
Slotmill returns to its Norse mythology series with Ragnarok Gold, the third entry following Ragnarok and Ragnarok 40K. Rather than rebuilding the formula from the ground up, this instalment refines the existing cluster-pay mechanics with a handful of extra modifiers while retaining the relentless multiplier progression that defined its predecessors. Players familiar with the series will immediately recognise its DNA, although newcomers will find a slot built around explosive avalanche chains and some serious win potential.

The game uses a 5x5 cluster-pay grid where five or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically produce a win. Every successful cluster triggers avalanches, removing winning symbols before new ones fall into place, while a Wild is added to one of the vacant positions after every cascade. At the same time, the progressive multiplier doubles after each avalanche, creating the possibility of enormous payouts if a winning chain refuses to end. Unlike many modern multiplier slots, the value grows exponentially rather than incrementally, making long cascade sequences genuinely exciting.

Several random modifiers add variety between spins. Loki's Trick can advance the multiplier before the first symbol even lands, Ragnarök Surge skips directly to the next multiplier stage, while Golden Relic injects additional Wilds onto the grid. Giant symbols covering either 2x2 or 3x3 positions also appear regularly, helping to create larger clusters and extend avalanche sequences. None of these mechanics fundamentally change the gameplay, but together they keep the base game feeling considerably more dynamic than a standard cluster slot.

Free Spins remain the main attraction. Triggered by three or more bonus symbols, the feature begins with up to 12 spins, but the key difference is that the multiplier no longer resets after every spin. Instead, it continues climbing throughout the entire bonus, allowing successful sequences to build into truly enormous values. Super Mode pushes things even further by guaranteeing giant symbols throughout the feature, dramatically increasing the chances of sustained avalanche chains.

On paper, the mathematics are among the game's strongest selling points. A 40,000x max payout immediately stands out, placing Ragnarok Gold well above most modern video slots, while the 96.10% RTP and high volatility complement its long-term risk profile. Slotmill also includes an extensive selection of enhanced bets and feature buys, ranging from specific modifiers to direct access to Super Mode for players who prefer skipping the base game.

Ragnarok Gold delivers exactly what fans of the series would expect: huge multipliers, constant cascades and the potential for spectacular wins. The downside is that it rarely feels like a genuinely new chapter. Many of the additions amount to refinements rather than fresh ideas, meaning players who exhausted the previous two games may experience a strong sense of déjà vu. Even so, as a polished evolution of an already successful formula, it remains one of Slotmill's more rewarding high-volatility releases, particularly for players chasing oversized multiplier sessions rather than groundbreaking innovation.
